Day 3
And just like that… we’re winding down from our final full day activities here on the Isle of Wight!
It’s been a wonderful day full of amazing activities - lots of memories were made that will stay with us forever!
We began the day with a nutritious and filling breakfast! There was a full English on the menu, complete with a choice of cereal, toast and fruit! It was soon on to our first activities of the day and we were kept busy with a full timetable of zip wire, laser tag, archery, abseiling and even learning to survive in the wild! It was so impressive to see the children’s resilience in starting a fire with flint and steel as well as using a range of materials and tools to make different shelters!
After a yummy lunch of jacket potatoes with all the trimmings, we carried on into the sunshine for the afternoon. There’s been no time to stop as we’ve run from activity to activity - we really have enjoyed being in the wilderness for the past few days!
In no time at all, after making sure we had plenty of energy from a yummy dinner of chicken katsu curry and macaroni cheese (with a brownie for pudding, of course!), it was back to our cabins to get ourselves disco-ready!
Our children danced the night away in a silent disco and really enjoyed listening to their selection of songs on their headphones. With group dances of the Chacha slide, the Macarena and YMCA, as well as plenty of dance moves from the teachers, and lots of singalongs to some of our favourites, we were ready to celebrate making it through our jam-packed trip!
We’re packed, showered and in our pyjamas, ready to make our way home tomorrow!
Thanks for following along as we’ve had the best time ever!!
Day 2
Well… that’s another day done! We are having an absolutely blast here on The Isle of Wight!
Our day began with a hearty breakfast of toast, cereals and fruit, as well as a cooked option - plenty of hash browns, sausages and beans all round!! We soon moved onto our first activities of the day and got stuck right in. Group 1 and 2 enjoyed a spot of climbing, whilst groups 3 and 4 got busy with archery, groups 5 and 6 conquered their fears on the trapeze, and groups 7 and 8 completed a sensory trail!!
We are pleased to tell you that, later in the day, group 8 beat the PGL record for the fastest climb up the trapeze pole - 12 seconds!! After a filling lunch of pizza, chips and salad, we were off again for our afternoon activities. Dragon boating was the standout activity of the day, with every child blowing us away with their energy and focus! It was wonderful to see their determination in mastering the skill of rowing forward and backwards whilst maintaining their balance so as not to capsize the boat!
To round up our eventful day, we had a delicious dinner of vegetable chow mein, fish fingers and wedges, chicken and ample amounts of fresh salad! We then headed to the campfire for a few songs, stories, fun and of course… toasted marshmallows!
Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for our final full day of fun! Over and out!
Day 1
That’s a wrap on day 1 of our Isle of Wight adventures!!
After being waved off by our lovely parents this morning, we were soon on our way to Portsmouth Quays! In no time, with a bit of singing, chanting and cheering, we’d arrived and were able to admire the views from the ferry. We had a nice picnic to keep us going and we soon arrived at Fishbourne, ready to get settled into our rooms at Little Canada!
After a tour of the site it was down to the beach for us! The children had a wonderful time in the sun, skipping stones and searching for shells - we even had time to play in the sand! We were well and truly ready for our dinner after all of that sea air, and tucked into a real feast in the diner: lasagne and garlic bread, potato wedges and sausage rolls, pasta and veggie fingers AND a fully stocked salad bar with a chocolate muffin for pudding!
With our tummies full and our energy replenished, we are now settling down to enjoy a cozy movie before we head to bed. Don’t forget to check our social media page for updates of our activities tomorrow!
Welcome to the Year 6 page! This is where you will find all the information you need to know about what we will be doing in Year 6 this term. There is so much to look forward to this year: an exciting new English curriculum, lots of opportunity to deepen learning, opportunities for extra responsibility as role models at the top end of school, a residential and an end of year production. Your last year at Danetree is going to be brilliant!
Each year, your child’s teacher is responsible for making a judgement about the standard your child is working. At Danetree Primary school, children sit tests in Year 1 – 6 throughout the year to help with this teacher assessment. In Year 6, the end of year tests are different because they are national tests. There will be a parent information session later in the year so teachers can explain the process. For more information about these tests, click on the link.
Please check out the subjects section to find ways of supporting your child at home with their reading, writing and maths.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher in the first instance.
